I posted this the other day:
I originally wrote that post out as a single line, when I realized it had a decent rhythm to it. It was practically a haiku! Sure, I was missing a couple of syllables, but as you can tell, I fixed that problem easily.
We should do this more often
While this poem was a one-off and a bit of a meme, I've been interested in writing more haiku for several months now. I like the idea of using the constraints of micropoetry to develop my artistic writing.
I'm also a huge fan of gamejams and hackathons which usually have themes to get your brain going. Same inspirations: Create a thing within a constrained window (in this case, time instead of size), with a root thread open to your interpretation.
While I want to practice finding inspiration, I'd like to just get into the habit of writing first. Fortunately for me, there's an account bridged to the Atmosphere dedicated to sharing themes for inspiring your own poems:
Here's my plan
Daily-ish micropoems, maybe or maybe not using the theme provided by Daily Haiku Prompt. I'll have the poem at the top, then follow that with some commentary on my thought process. I'm approaching it like a miniature daily journal. I will make no promise that the poems will be good.
Since my intention is to post daily, I don't plan to cross-post to Bluesky unless I really love what I wrote. If you're interested in following along, please subscribe here on Leaflet, and visit the Read tab to stay up-to-date. Of course, feel free to share anything that resonates.
It's easy for me to make promises like these, but it's much harder to keep them. Admittedly, there are no stakes here. No cross-posting makes it easy for me to disappear! So, consider this an invitation to poke me if I forget or go dark for a long period—but please be kind.
That's all. I'll post today's poem shortly, and I hope you stop by occasionally to browse.
The title is a reference to one of my favorite TikTok accounts, dcplateking. Please appreciate his madness:
