Where does the fault lie?

Last year, I set up a nutrient-film-technique hydroponic system in a tent in my basement for growing herbs. Yes, actually herbs, not “herb”.

I was fairly successful, but as time went on, the plants started trying to kill themselves. I had been too successful, you see: their roots grew too strong and too wide, and they would eventually clog the pipes. The only reason I knew was because my pump would continue to move water regardless, and the system would overflow on to the floor.

I saw two perspectives on this situation: From one angle, these brainless vascular systems grew with a sickening greed that worked to end their own lives. In reality, I put too much nutrients in the water, so if there was a “fault”, it would lie with me.

Oh well. I can always try again.
